Hotels in Tiberias, Israel

Travel information about Tiberias, Israel

The Galilee – or the North of Israel – is the largest region in Israel by land area and the smallest by population. It consists of three major bi-sectoral areas; a coastal plain in the north, known as the Yishtia or Northern District, and two inland plains – the Galilee on the west, and the Hula or Upper Galilee on the east.

The city of Tiberias was established around 2,400 BC in honour of the Roman god of the river. Tiberias is one of the oldest cities in Israel with a continuous population and a prosperous centre for Jewish culture, religion and education. It was built on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.
